Down loaded 12 July 2003.With increased attention to the realities of aboriginal offending and incarceration in recent years, specific issues relating to aboriginal offending have been addressed more intentionally, including the serious problem of sexual offenses. A number of private and government organizations have begun to develop programs to deal with this problem. In this context, the authors of this paper aim to contribute to the development of a treatment strategy for aboriginal sex offenders, a strategy that melds aboriginal spiritual healing with a cognitive-behavioral approach. The authors include a review of the literature on aboriginal sex offenders; a discussion of aboriginal culture, ethics, and rules of behavior; a survey of the situation with respect to aboriginal offenders and incarceration; an overview of aboriginal sex offenders and treatment programs; summaries of particular treatment programs for aboriginal sex offenders; and information on aboriginal spirituality.
