Source: (2001) Paper presented at the Restorative and Community Justice: Inspiring the Future conference, held in Winchester, England, 28-31 March.

In this presentation, Terry O’Connell highlights a family violence project in Goulburn, a small rural city in New South Wales, Australia. The project began as a review by Goulburn Family Support Service (GFSS) of its own practices. The results of the review developed into a collaborative community project oriented toward finding and employing the best response to family violence. Because of this review and development, family support workers with GFSS now use a comprehensive, restorative approach. O’Connell believes this model has the potential to be very effective in breaking the cycle of family violence.
