The Wanganui Restorative Justice Trust was set up by Judge Becroft and prison, business and community personnel to set up a restorative justice process in Wanganui, New Zealand. This article tells the story of Johnathon Carter, whose driving left his best friend dead. As a result of a conference with the victim’s parents, Johnathon’s imprisonment sentence was suspended and he agreed to other outcomes, including sharing his story at area schools. Also, Bruce Parr, the project co-ordinator, explains the process and success rates of the project.
