Community groups and victims are working in partnership with criminal justice agencies to address both preconditions of crime and problems caused by crime in new ways. In this regard, leaders are needed who can play a transformational role in mobilizing support for corrections policies that are consistent with emerging perspectives. New ways of thinking about corrections and new correctional programs and practices may fundamentally redefine the nature and role of the criminal justice system. Leaders need to recognize that the movement toward restorative or community justice is relevant to the entire criminal justice system and not just to the community corrections component.
