This paper reports on a Community Conferencing pilot program in an urban setting in the United States. The restorative framework of community conferencing places an emphasis on repairing the damage of crime. Each conference brings together the offender, the victim, their supporters, and people who live or work in the neighborhood where the offense took place to discuss the impact of the incident on those affected. A team of trained facilitators then helps the group develop a formal agreement which describes how the offender will make amends to the victim and community. All conference participants, including the offender, make a voluntary decision to be part of the program.
