Source: (2001) Correctional Services of Canada.Circles of Support and Accountability (CSA) began in 1994 as a result of new legislation in Canada concerning detention. Prior to CSA, offenders who were released after serving their full sentence had not supports or monitoring mechanisms in place to assist with their adjustment to life in the community. The CSA program was developed to provide that assistance. This document presents an evaluation of the program, with resulting recommendations to improve the program. The evaluation covers the program’s efforts in the following areas: building on a ministry’s or agency’s potential; establishment of CSA in local communities; mobilization of volunteer resources; assistance to community organizations to respond to local needs; and perspectives of current CSA volunteers and core members on the program.
