This review describes the role of community conferencing in crime prevention, conflict resolution and offender management in remote Aboriginal communities. Palm Island off of Queensland has been chosen to pilot community conferencing programs because of the violent history of the island. There is hope that these programs will increase community involvement in the conduct of conferencing sessions while allowing victim participation and the promotion of greater offender accountability. Conflict resolution, dispute mediation and counselling will also be used to promote restorative justice in criminal processes.
