On behalf of the National Probation Service, a team of independent researchers undertook an evaluation of Crime Reduction Programme-Community Service (or, Pathfinder) projects begun in 2000 in England and Wales. This is an executive summary of the interim report on the evaluation. The aims of the Crime Reduction Programme-Community Service or Pathfinder programs are to encourage socially responsible attitudes and behavior, to develop and reward employable skills, and to use community service to address problems contributing to offending. The document describes the research itself, the Pathfinder projects, statistics on participating offenders, the program’s processes, and tentative results of the program.
