On 11 and 12 August, 2000, the Northern Territory Council of Churches in Australia convened a public consultation to discuss issues of justice and crime in the Northern Territory and to inform the Northern Territory Government of community attitudes on these issues. The consultation included a plenary session with presentations by Ross Homel, a criminologist and author of the Federal government report “Pathways to Preventionâ€?; and John Braithwaite, an expert in restorative justice. Participants in the consultation were also organized into working groups to allow all people to share their perspectives on justice and crime. This consultation report contains an overview of the conference purpose and planning, papers of the first plenary session, comments from the workshops, and recommendations to the Northern Territory Government.
