McKenzie discusses Old Testament notions of law and punishment and relates them to modern ideas and practices of criminal justice. His paper explores the nature of Old Testament law through examination of the Decalogue, the Book of the Covenant, laws on holiness, and the Deuteronomic collection. McKenzie claims Old Testament law has a unique character distinguishing it from other ancient collections of law. He concludes by commenting on the proper use of Old Testament law in contemporary perspectives and practices of criminal justice.
