"This chapter looks at the inspiring role that human dignity can play in the aftermath of mass victimisation that occurs during violent conflict. It argues that people should look beyond the classic - and in my view narrow - interpretation of restorative justice. By stating this, I face two challenges. Firstly, I will engage in the ongoing debate among restorative justice scholars as to whether and how the scope and definition of restorative justice should be broadened (Roche 2001; Villa-Vicencio 2003: 47). Secondly, I will argue that restorative justice principles should be considered when dealing with violent conflicts that result in mass victimisation (Christie 2001; Cunneen 2001; Parmentier 2003)."
