This article describes two types of pre-court diversionary processes used in youth offences: police warnings and family group conferencing. The aim of conferencing in terms of this article is to “encourage young people to take responsibility for their actions, discourage them from re-offending and strengthen family and community connections.â€? This style of juvenile justice is seen as progressive because is recognizes the complexity of issues within youth crimes and seeks to involve a wider context of people.
