Canberra, Australia: Australian Institute of Criminology.High risk adolescents often have complex and multiple needs and risk behaviors. In view of this, the authors describe a program in Gippsland (Victoria, Australia) to intervene as soon as possible with such adolescents. Early intervention required coordination and partnerships among a number of groups and systems, such as schools, health services, and police. Hence, a common assessment and referral system was needed, devised, and implemented. The authors then present statistics and analysis describing the outcomes of this intervention program.
