Writing from a Conservative political perspective, and as a member of government in England, Ann Widdecombe asserts that many Conservatives are currently leading a “common senseâ€? revolution in the fight against crime, and that many elements of this “common senseâ€? perspective are relational. Widdecombe claims that good relationships at the heart of policing and prison strategies are very effective in responding to and reducing crime. To illustrate, she discusses ways to make policing more visible, to involve communities more in local policing, and to reform the prison service to foster change in offenders.
