Jolly addresses three questions in this essay; 1) What is the relation between restorative and retributive justice and how does this relate to the difference between customary conflict resolution in Melanesia and introduced legal systems derived largely from Western models?; 2) Would the process called restorative justice be better conceptualised as transformative justice?; 3) What is the model and value of community being evoked and how far is this a value for all or rather reflects dominant voices?
