Professor of Social Work at the University of Vermont Gale Burford was a pioneer in the promotion of restorative justice strategies in the Canadian justice system and the author of numerous chapters and books in the field. Vermont is a state that like Minnesota has been at the forefront of the restorative justice movement, especially with regard to juveniles. This chapter takes us right into the child welfare system where family group conferencing according to the New Zealand model is being actively applied. (editor's description)
