In this address, Morgenthau considers the significance of resources in conflicts and building peace in Africa. She believes that the causes of conflict are primarily political, not economic; yet for those seeking to build peace, it is important to understand both the role of economics in conflict and the use of resources to seek peaceful ends. With all of this in view, she surveys particular nations in conflict in Africa and the role of specific resources in those conflicts. She also identifies guidelines for national and international efforts in reducing conflict and fostering peace in those nations.
