The use of ADR as a government response to residential school survivors illustrates the danger inherent in the reshaping of ADR to fit the adversarial legal context of North American court processes. Under such conditions, the ADR process can become another means of imposing a particular set of values and ideals on those who expected the process to provide something different and more meaningful than would be possible through lawsuits and court appearances.(excerpt)
