Social change produces conflicts, and conflicts bring about social change. While this seems simplistically true, Carlos Yordan asserts that the relationship between conflict and change is poorly understood. This is true because different forms of social organization – that is, individualistic societies and organicistic societies – react differently to conflict. In this context, Yordan states that conflict should be seen not only as a negative social phenomenon, but also as a positive aspect of social life. It can be a means through which problems can be addressed and solutions found. Hence, Yordan seeks to construct a theoretical framework for organicistic societies to transform their social structures while addressing the challenges posed by social conflicts.
