This chapter will explore the apparent alienation of youth from the communities they live in. It begins with an examination of accusations of increasing intolerance amongst young people, as voiced by the media, politicians and the pubic. With reference to concepts of ontological insecurity and moral panic, an apparent parallel intolerance amongst adults will then be explored, plotting a growing concern with what might be considered normality in young people's behaviour.
