This is a revised inventory of Aboriginal community/restorative justice programs in Ontario. The information was obtained by reviewing existing sources, through a survey of Joint Management Committee members, by reviewing websites and by interviewing new contacts. We are using a very broad definition of community/restorative justice. It includes any programs that provide an alternative or community approach at the precharge phase, post-charge phase, pre-sentence phase and/or at the point that the person re-enters the community after incarceration. It also includes anything related to justice that is different from the usual charging, trial, sentencing or release process. It could be a mainstream program with substantial Aboriginal involvement or a program that is strictly Aboriginal. It could be a formal program or an informal one that consists primarily of volunteers. It could also include community education and awareness programs. (excerpt)
