Source: Toronto: General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada. Downloaded 3 August 2004.As indicated in this document, the Government of Canada is being sued by thousands of former students of Indian residential schools for alleged abuses committed against those students. The Anglican Church of Canada has been named as a co-defendant in more than a thousand of these cases. As of December 1999 one case had come to trial. It is possible, according to this document, that some cases may be withdrawn if the concerns of the plaintiffs can be addressed through alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Here then the Anglican Church of Canada provides guidelines and resources concerning the use of ADR in the context of these allegations and the resulting lawsuits.
