Source: (2001) Paper presented at the Theology and Culture: Peacemaking in a Globalized World conference. Bienenberg Theological Seminary, Switzerland, 25-29 June.Hussein addresses issues pertaining to injustice in Ethiopia and the role of churches – particularly churches in the historic peace tradition – in pursuing peace and justice in Ethiopia. He sketches Ethiopia’s historical background, and cultural and religious beliefs that bear upon issues of poverty and injustice. This discussion also includes significant social, economic, and political factors. With all of this in mind, Hussein examines factors that affect the response of churches in Ethiopia to these issues. He then proposes a number of concrete steps that could be taken by churches to pursue peace and justice more faithfully and effectively.
