In recent years victim-offender mediation has gained in significance in the criminal justice system of the Federal Republic of Germany. In this paper, Dieter Dölling covers the definition and aims of victim-offender mediation, its legal bases in German criminal law, and developments in the practice of mediation in Germany in the 1980s and 1990s.
