If we take the impact of trauma from extreme violence seriously, acknowledge the depth of feelings experienced, and recognize to the fullest extent the multilayered, multidimensional nature of healing, then we will understand that nothing is simply what it appears to be. Persons who have been violated need further opportunity to process that which is below and deep within their hearts.
