The authors report on an adult probation and parole service in the New South Wales Department of Corrective Services as it seeks to develop services for indigenous people under its supervision, particularly with respect to alcohol and substance abuse. The impetus came from a perception of the nexus between offending and alcohol and substance abuse. The paper describes the program: underlying assumptions of the program; program objectives and methods; and benchmarking criteria with respect to program results.
