This past summer I had the privilege of studying the parable most commonly called “The Prodigal Son”, found in Luke 15:11-32. Several years ago I heard this parable against the backdrop of first century Middle Eastern cultural insights, which forever changed how I view God. The more I reflected on this parable, the more I saw one of the finest examples of restorative justice in the Scriptures! I began using it in various church circles and workshops as a launching pad to invite Christians to embrace restorative justice. Even folks who had grown up in the church, but who had never come too close to restorative justice, were more open to doing so afterwards! (excerpt)
