During her three-week stay in New Zealand, Diana Medlicott saw first hand the growing progress of restorative justice programs in the country. She met with professionals who were committed to increased victim involvement and family group conferencing. Diana was surprised to find such dedicated support from police officers and judges who promoted the widespread use of restorative justice. Youth programs brought together the victim and offender, the family members, and the community to solve behavioural problems and increase self-esteem. Diana’s time in New Zealand reinforced her belief that restorative justice works and encouraged her to continue supporting such programs.
