The Department of Corrections spent almost $40 million last year to establish rehabilitative programs. These programs focus on offenders who have expressed a willingness to change. One program, prison-based Straight Thinking, teaches critical thinking skills to inmates. EQUIP, a similar program for young adults, addresses the needs of younger offenders. Other such programs have been established to “motivate, rehabilitate, and reintegrate offenders.â€?
