"This chapter, which is a developing exploration of reparations in the South Africa context post-1994, begins by outlining the parameters of the reparations debate in South Africa. This is discussed in three parts, that is individual reparations, apartheid reparations, and what is termed 'community reparations'. Some reflections as well as some questions and considerations that are emerging in these debates are then highlighted. The chapter concludes by discussing the symbolic meaning of reparations in the so-called new South Africa, and the importance of acknowledgment in the process of reparations." (excerpt)
