This response to the government's consultation document on restorative justice is on behalf of Nacro and reflects the value that our agency places on restorative processes in reducing crime and changing our clients' lives for the better. We have drawn upon the knowledge and experience of our wide range of projects and consultants in this field, reflecting our past belief in this process. Equally we recognise the future potential set out in the eleven proposed workstrands, and we are already actively engaged in some of this work. Nacro actively supports the development of restorative justice and will be an enthusiastic and well-informed partner in the process. We share the consultation document's vision of "restorative justice fully integrated into the criminal justice system and embedded in wider society." We have structured our response by replying to the 26 consultation questions individually, as requested, rather than in narrative form. The co-ordinators of this document are available for any fuller discussion or explanation of the points raised.
