Community Legal Education Ontario, founded in 1974, is a community legal clinic in Ontario, Canada, that specializes in public legal education. One of its chief aims is to produce clear language materials on a variety of subjects for people with low incomes. This pamphlet introduces restorative justice as a different way of treating victims of youth crime. The pamphlet covers the following topics: principles of restorative justice; ways to apply restorative justice in a youth justice system; restorative justice as a community-based approach; types of cases that are suitable for restorative justice; restorative justice processes; the role and participation of victims in such processes; accountability for young offenders; what restorative justice offers victims of youth crime; and why a meeting between the victim and the youth offender is called "restorative."
