After outlining the holes in empirical research done on the outcomes of restorative justice programs, Bonta and his colleagues outline the intermediate result of the Restorative Resolutions project in Winnipeg. This project started with a goal to evaluate the out comes of the project. Developed as a means of diverting offenders from incarceration, the Restorative Resolutions project went through a process of informing judges of the program availability and developing individualized programs for referrals. The study compares the in-study recidivism rates with those of similar offenders sentenced to prison or incarceration. The numbers show that those entering the restorative resolutions project showed a lower recidivism rate than the other groups.
