According to Lieutenant Commander Chris Griggs, who has written a paper on the issue, the New Zealand Defence Force is looking into the possibility of the integration of restorative justice into the military justice system. This article describes the military’s consideration of restorative justice. For example, Griggs in his paper has examined how restorative justice components of New Zealand’s Victims’ Rights Act might affect the military justice system. More generally, the military is looking at restorative justice closely to determine if and to what degree restorative justice principles and practices might be relevant and useful in the wide range of scenarios that come before the military justice system.
