As many readers will be aware, a major evaluation of Restorative Justice involving adult offenders in England and Wales has been taking place since 2001. The third report from that evaluation has just been published by the Ministry of Justice in their Research Series, no. 3/07: ‘Restorative Justice: the views of victims and offenders’, available at http://www.justice.gov.uk/docs/Restorative-Justice.pdf The report concentrates on the views of victims and offenders taking part in three restorative justice schemes, CONNECT, Justice Research Consortium (JRC) and REMEDI. Previous reports have considered how many cases achieved mediation or conferencing* and what happened during the mediation or conferencing . The final report from the evaluation will look at reconviction and provide a cost-benefit analysis. (excerpt)
