As part of its strategic aim of preventing youth offending and factors that increase risks of youth offending, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police seek creative ways of reaching out to young people. A recent innovation is the RCMP Musical Ride’s “Say Neigh to Drugsâ€? initiative. Through a program delivered in local communities by mounted police and their horses, a powerful anti-drug message is conveyed to youth. Lenore Richards describes the program and, because of the program’s success in Canada, efforts to develop a similar program with mounted police in California (USA).
