As Ada Aharoni notes, themes about peace have been components of Jewish and Islamic scriptures for centuries. Such themes have been vital through the ages in creating an atmosphere conducive to peace. She further observes that, at the time of her writing, the cultural climate for peace in the Middle East is at an historic moment, as the parties in conflict (Israelis and Arabs) are involved in a peace process. In this context, Aharoni writes about the use of culture as a conveyor of peace. In addition to peacemaking through conflict resolution techniques, the pursuit of peace and reconciliation would benefit from the use of prose, poetry, art, and other media to address and overcome conflict.
