The roots of sulha can be found partly in early Semitic writings and later in Christian Scriptures dating from around the first century A.D., and of course later found in pre-Islamic and Islamic literature. The point of this volume is more to demonstrate the durability and wide acceptance of sulha as a means of promoting peace and tranquility between the offended and the offender, whether they be individuals, families, tribes or towns, than to determine its origins as the invention or property of any one ethnic or religious groups.
