Seminars are being held throughout New Zealand cities detailing the role of restorative justice in the new Sentencing, Parole and Victims’ Rights Act of 2002. These seminars are being held for those working in criminal justice areas. Lawyers are now required to present restorative justice options to their clients as well as encouraging victim-offender meetings. Overall, the Sentencing Act promotes responsibility for the crime, interests of the victim, and accountability for the harm done.
