Building on Nils Christie’s work on conflict, Dullum begins this paper by differentiating various kinds of models for conflict resolution. She then places the Norwegian mediation boards, first established in 1981, in this context. The basic purposes and structure of these boards are summarized. Dullum also presents the operations and results of the work of the boards through key figures from the 1995 statistics.
