The new communitarian movement has many similarities with the core ideas of restorative justice. Both perspectives argue for strengthening the local community in order to prevent crime and social problems. This paper discusses recent changes in the criminal justice system in Sweden, with a particular emphasis on measures against juvenile delinquency. Results from an ongoing evaluation of a mediation project in a medium sized Swedish city are presented.
