Beginning in 2000, after a number of pilot projects, Slovenia implemented a nation-wide program of victim-offender mediation. In this article Alenka Meznar, Higher State Prosecutor in Slovenia, reports on the program. Meznar describes the legislative foundation for the program, actions of the State Prosecutor’s Office in preparing for and assigning cases to victim-offender mediation, and statistics on the program in its first year of operation. This report includes analysis by Meznar of key elements and results of the program.
