Bellard describes the principles and practices of victim offender mediation (VOM). In doing so she compares and contrasts VOM with community mediation. They both appeared in the 1970s in the United States, but since then they have tended to develop separately. In particular Bellard points out that VOM programs tend to be more closely connected with the restorative justice movement and with faith communities. Also VOM and community mediation generally deal with different types of cases.
