When Nikki Erickson was a child, her mother was mortally wounded by a young man stealing her purse. Now an adult, Erickson recounts in this succinct article the traumatic effects on her of her mother’s murder and the journey she continues to experience in trying to cope and move forward in life. A significant element in this journey has been her decision to participate in a Victim Offender Mediation Dialogue process with the incarcerated murderer. In all of this, she is learning she does not have to forget to forgive.
