Pp. 6Dick Auger, of the Thames Valley Police’s restorative justice initiative, characterizes restorative justice as an approach to conflict resolution that offers a balanced response. Whereas the existing criminal justice system focuses mainly on offenders, restorative justice seeks to balance the requirements of victims, communities, and offenders. On that foundation, Auger compares retributive and restorative justice approaches, discusses measures of effectiveness with respect to restorative justice, identifies various restorative practices, and points to the use of restorative policing in the Thames Valley Police.
