While the incidence of youth crime in Canada is declining, the incidence of violent youth crime is increasing. Dave Clark looks at statistics and causes of youth violence. Noting the complexities of youth violence, he observes that there is no simple and quick solution. Strategies must be community-based; and they must address root causes in the context of youth interacting with peers, school, family, and community – amid social issues such as family violence, substance abuse, poverty, lack of positive role models, and related factors.
