While many religious traditions sanction capital punishment, the Society of Friends (Quakers) does not sanction it and seeks the end of capital punishment. Wilmerding explains why this is the case. He roots Quaker opposition to capital punishment in the Biblical restorative justice embedded in the concept of shalom. The article covers key elements of restorative justice and shalom.
