The authors warn against cause and effect thinking when applied to crime: that it leads to blaming the victim for the crime. A call is issued to examine ways to bring healing to the burgeoning numbers of crime victims, one that balances offender rights with victim needs. Both criminal justice systems and local communities need greater sensitivity and training regarding their own attitudes toward crime victims.
