Reports on the first year of implementation of Family Group Decision Making Project in three sites in Labrador and Newfoundland Canada. Adapted from the New Zealand model of Family Group Conferences, this program was designed to deal with intra-family abuse and violence. The project is described and the purpose and results are discussed. Issues of victim safety and appropriate cases for inclusion are presented. Steps in the preparation, conference, and development of family plans are explained. Finally, costs of the program is estimated, initial results presented, and limitations of this approach are discussed.
