Source: (1989) Testimony on Restorative Justice. Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, Religious Society of Friends, 9/27/89, 8p.
A Quaker minute calling for a restorative response to crime. Restorative justice seeks to equally love victims and offenders, and holds offenders accountable without punishment. Punishment is the deliberate infliction of pain on another, whether by individuals or governments. This testimony calls on Friends to renounce all forms of punishment by seeking to respond constructively to crime and the needs it creates. The roles and responsibilities of victim, offender and society are presented.
Your donation helps Prison Fellowship International repair the harm caused by crime by emphasizing accountability, forgiveness, and making amends for prisoners and those affected by their actions. When victims, offenders, and community members meet to decide how to do that, the results are transformational.
